The leaders of Hills Youth Trinamool Congress today launched an all-out attack on the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha from the Trikon Park here. Although the public meeting was organized to declare the future activities of the party, the speakers focused on criticizing the GJM. TMC Darjeeling district committee secretary NB Khawas was the main speaker of the meeting which was presided over by youth leader Chewang Bhutia.
Addressing the gathering Khawas asserted the hills is losing direction and TMC is the only party which can show the correct path to the public. He alleged the GJM raised the issue of separate state but also dropped it during the period of the struggle. He said, “The GJM had been placing the demand for a interim setup before the government since the first meeting during the period of movement.” and added, “In all the tripartite meetings the GJM pressed on scrapping of sixth schedule and utilization of Rs.76 crores lying at DGHC’s disposal. It did not talk about Gorkhaland in any of the meetings.”
Khawas backed the new cadres saying the TMC supporters are not betrayers or anti-community. He questioned, “How can those, who are running the set up granted by government, call the TMC supporters as anti-community?” He claimed the TMC would emerge as the third largest party in the country after the 2014 LS elections.
The meeting was also adderessed by TMC Minority committee state sceretary Nasir Ahemed, who said for development of the Darjeeling hills its necessary to elect a TMC candidate in the upcoming LS polls. He also criticised Darjeeling MP Jaswant Singh of failing to bring development projects to the hills.
Similarly, INTTUC leader JB Tamang also took his turn to slam the GJM. He alleged, “Currently the GJM chief is doing drama to become GTA chief again. He himself is directing the activists to put up posters in the name of “Janta” demanding him to re-take the chair of GTA chief.” He also alleged the GJM of extorting Rs. 5 daily from the workers in several tea gardens along with indulging in corruption in 100 days work. He said along with GJM leaders, officials of Block development office, post office and supervisors are also indulging in corruption.
The public meeting was also adderessed by some new faces, youth coordinator Rajen Mukhia, president Pravin Rahapal, Om Prakash Adhikari and Aprajan Tamang among others. Party leader Nainita Gautam was also present in today’s meeting.
The party workers had also organized a rally from the Mela ground before the public meeting. Around six hundred supporters rallied through the town to reach the Trikon Park.
