The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha activists and supporters from different areas have started leaving for Delhi as part of their renewed agitation for statehood. The GJM supporters and leaders will be staging a ‘dharna’ at the Jantar Mantar from December 13 to 15.
The GJM chief Bimal Gurung granting relaxation to the third phase of Gorkhaland agitation and bandh across Darjeeling hills had decided to stage ‘dharnas’ in the centre. He had claimed to gather lakhs of supporters from different states to make the ‘dharna’ successful.
Following the announcement several GJM activists and supporters have been travelling to the centre. Meanwhile, the gathering of people for the ‘dharna’ has already started in the centre. GJM sources claim that several leaders of GJMs frontal organisations including GTA members and councilors of four municipalities have already left for Delhi. Similarly, 17 out of 20 councillors of Kurseong Municipality have also already left.
