The Dooars region is famed for its forests, wildlife, natural beauty and endemic tribes and has established itself as a top tourist destination. Several organisations in central Dooars are making commendable efforts to promote tourism in the region. Tourism-affiliated bodies of Kalchini and Madarihat-Birpara blocks such as Yugantar Parivar, ACT, Photographic Association of Dooars and Cooch Behar and Canopy Dream and Help Tourism will jointly host an Eco Fest from November 14.
The festival will kick-off at the Jaldapara National Park and will also be hosted at Chilapata, Totopara, Buxa Tiger Reserve and Raimatang Forest Busty over the next four days. The fest will conclude at the Dooars Sangralaya in Kalchini on November 19 with a food festival and poet congregation.
Central Dooars Eco Fest coordinator and Yugantar Parivar president Ramkumar Lama said the festival will be marked by bird and butterfly watching besides promoting a multi-cultural society and local tourist spots. Along with attracting tourists, the festival is also aimed at drawing the state government’s attention towards development of tourism in the region.
Ramkumar further said the festival will likely be attended by foreign tourists too and the organisation is keen to establish links with international tourism bodies.
