Siliguri, 25 October
Police below the rank of inspector recently did not hesitate to criticise the chief minister Miss Mamata Banerjee explicitly for her frequent change of mind during the north Bengal trip particularly in the Hills and the Dooars. This is another change in the state and culture of police department, they said. Notably, the police department today deployed adequate police forces since 3 p.m. in three places in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts when it was decided that chief minister Mamata Banerjee will come down to the plains this evening from Darjeeling.
Adequate police were deployed in and around Sukna forest bungalow in Kurseong division, at Monpong in Kalimpong and at Kamrangaguri in front of the NHPC guest house.
Inspectors, sub inspectors and other cops associated with the Siliguri Metropolitan Police Commissionerate were deployed in front of the NHPC guest house since 3 p.m.
It was decided that concerned police officials would be informed about the location of the chief minister on time and the name of the guest house, where she would stay at night, out of the three places between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to take necessary arrangements for security measures, including traffic management.
A team of police officials, in front of NHPC guest house at Kamrangaguri in Jalpiguri, were discussing about their chief minister casually.
When asked to comment on the chief minister’s arrival time here, a police officer said: “After 4 p.m, we will be coming to know about her destination.”
Another one said: “Police have been deployed at three places ~ Mongpong, Sukna and here. We don’t know where she will stay.”
“Perhaps the chief minister will not come here. But we have to do our job here. This is simply harassment. There is no specific information yet about her decision to stay at night. This lady (our chief minister) changes her mind midway. Nobody knows when she would change her decision during the journey,” said a cop. Is it for security reasons? “She does not bother about her security and proposals of top police officials about security,” one of the police officers said. Around 6 p.m, they left the place, when the CM’s convoy arrived at Sukna, and expressed annoyance over her regarding ‘needless duty’.
