Centre caused delay in Sevoke-Rongpoo project: Deb

The Statesman

Siliguri, 24 July -In order to pacify huge supporters and people, who are virtually upset over non-execution of many vision projects introduced by the Trinamul Congress, the north Bengal development minister Mr Gautam Deb directly held the Centre responsible for the delay in implementing the venture.
Addressing a political rally for poll campaigning at Jateshwar in Jalpaiguri yesterday, Mr Deb said the Central government’s environment department had not given clearance for Miss Mamata Banerjee’s dream railway project from Savoke to Rongpoo.
“Intentionally the Congress prevented us from carrying out projects,” he said.
“The projects were launched in the interest of the people, by using their influences,” Mr Deb claimed.
Mr Deb also claimed that the Centre’s railway authorities had not extended support to start functioning of the railway projects, including a factory near New Jalpaiguri.
Coming down heavily on the Centre and National Highway Authority of India, the north Bengal development minister Mr Deb, said: “The NHAI has cancelled tenders floated for the construction of a 170 km long National Highway 31-D showing the problem of land acquisition only in a 9 km long area.”
“The Central government’s agency ~ the NHAI ~ could have started executing the project but they did not show courage so that the Trinamul Congress cannot claim credit.” he said.
To appease the people ahead of the rural polls, Mr Deb read out a series of plans and programmes of his department.
He also claimed that his department would set up 12 colleges in north Bengal. One college would be setup here for the students of Falakata and Jateshwar. But a local youngster, after listening to his speech, said: “The proposal for setting up a college is being campaigned over the past two years.”“But practically we do not have official information about the project.” the youngster added.
