Kurseong, 3 July
Tension prevailed in Kurseong town today, as the GNLF served a memorandum at the Kurseong police station, demanding arrests of all the GJMM activists who have figured in the FIR the party lodged regarding last Saturday’s inter-party clash at Kharay Khola while the GJMM activists congregated at the same police station area and took out rallies protesting against the GNLF clamouring for the arrests of its activists. Police cordoned off the area to keep the rival groups at a safe distance. The GJMM supporters were heard raising slogans, condemning the GNLF for fomenting fresh trouble in the otherwise peaceful Hills. As the GNLF supporters moved towards Kurseong hospital to visit those who have remained admitted there after they were injured in the clash, the GJMM supporters, on their part, were found approaching the same place in a rally. However, no skirmish was reported as the police were on their toes.
So far, six persons from the GJMM and one from the GNLF have been arrested by the Kurseong police since the clash had occurred last Saturday. But no one has been booked on the basis of the FIRs filed by the rival parties, it is learnt.
