GANGTOK, 29 MAY: The All India Congress Committee secretary and presently in charge of the party in Sikkim, Mr K Jayakumar, today asserted that his party would shed its earlier ennui to re-emerge with a new dynamism in the state. “We would be more people-centric and would ensure a greater degree of internal democracy. The long continuing tendency of unilateral decision making without taking the whole of the party on board would now become a thing of the past,” he said while inaugurating the new party office at 5th Mile, Tadong near Gangtok. He further said the party organisations would be re-jigged in a month. “The new state party president, Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha would reconstitute these organisations soon in tandem with the aspirations of the rank and file. New blood would be infused to invigorate the party down from the grassroots,” he added.
The decision to re-jig the party organisation has come up against the backdrop of the party stalwart Mr Nar Bahadur Bhandari having revived his Sikkim Sangram Parishad to take on the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front in the Assembly elections slated for next year.
The AICC secretary said the AICC president Mrs Sonia Gandhi and the vice president Mr Rahul Gandhi are in the know of things happening in the North East and Sikkim. “They are pretty serious about the region,” he said.
