Punjab resident Rajeev Singh Kandihan was detained by Customs, which had received a tip-off, after he arrived from Bangkok by a Jet Airways flight on Saturday night. But when no gold was found on him, the officials were flummoxed. But with the Thai authorities insisting that Kandihan was indeed carrying the gold, the officials took turns to grill him through the night. In in the wee hours of Sunday, Kandihan began experiencing severe stomach cramps and %admitted the gold was in his stomach.
An X-ray showed six bars lodged in his rectum. The officials are now wondering how to extract the precious metal. Use of laxative is an option, but if that does not work, Kandihan will have to be operated upon. They are hoping he would be in a position to be produced in court on Monday.
