SILIGURI, 15 APRIL: Forest officials today trapped an adult male leopard from Binnaguri Army Cantonment area and later released the animal in Gorumara National Park. Army officials informed the forest department to trap the beast, as residents of the Cantonment were spending sleepless nights fearing a leopard attack over the past three days. The Binnaguri Wildlife Squad laid a cage keeping a goat as bait. The male adult leopard was trapped at dawn today. Residents of several tea plantations are spending sleepless night fearing leopards’ attack in the Dooars. According to officials of the Binnaguri Wildlife Squad, in order to check leopard menace, they have laid cages at eight tea plantations. According to senior forest officials, the population of leopards have increased abnormally in this region and they prefer to hide in tea plantations. Both the management and workers associated with tea plantations stay in fear of leopard attacks.
