Darjeeling-Two Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) supporters, Nardeep Tamang and Binay Subba, were arrested on Friday following a fight with Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporter Suman Thakuri, who sustained minor injuries late on Thursday night.
An FIR has been filed against three more GNLF supporters. They are Diwas Subba, the prime accused, Amodh Chettri and Circuit Bhutia.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Thursday night at Jorebunglow, about 10 km from Darjeeling town, and added that it was a personal fight between Suman and Diwas. CRPF was deployed as tension gripped the area.
However, the Morcha accused that the GNLF was attacking their cadres to cause tension and unrest in the hills.
“By attacking our cadres, the GNLF is trying to disrupt peace in the hills.
An FIR has been named against those who had attacked our cadre and we demand that they be arrested as soon as possible.
We will not be liable for anything that happens as a reaction to the attack,” said Morcha youth wing general secretary Priyabardan Rai.
